Playbook: set up a local rank grid that reflects real customer searches
I tested geo-grid tracking on a real local client in Local Falcon and BrightLocal. Single-point local rank tracking lies — your rank changes block by block.
The setup:
— Pin the grid to the actual service area, not just the storefront. Use a 3-5 mile radius for service businesses.
— Set grid density to 7x7 for a city, 3x3 for a single neighborhood — denser just burns credits.
— Track the map pack AND organic separately. They move independently.
— Run the grid at the same time of day weekly — local results shift with time/traffic.
— Tag by 'category + city' query, not branded — branded always ranks and tells you nothing.
Local Falcon:
➕ Best raw geo-grid visualization, pay-as-you-go scans
➖ No long-term trend dashboards unless you upgrade
BrightLocal:
➕ Grid + citations + reviews in one report
➖ Grid is less granular than Falcon
Best for: pure grid precision → Local Falcon. Full local SEO dashboard → BrightLocal.
Price-vs-value: Falcon's pay-per-scan wins if you check monthly, not daily.
Pick this if you manage Google Business Profiles. Skip for national-only sites.
