Myth: Fraud detection needs an expensive third-party tool.
Wrong. You can build a native fraud scorecard from data you already own. Score every traffic source 0-10, one point per red flag:
— CTR above 3% on a static native unit
— Bounce rate under 20% (humans don't bounce that little; bots don't bounce at all)
— More than 50% of clicks in a 4-hour window (datacenter shift)
— Click timestamps clustered to the second
— Identical user-agent on 30%+ of clicks
— Conversion-to-click ratio that's suspiciously flat across every widget
— Referrer that's a known MFA domain
Seven-plus points? Cut it. Supposedly fraud is sophisticated and invisible. Most of it isn't — it just counts on you never building the scorecard.
