Breadcrumbs in results: schema vs a tidy URL

Breadcrumbs in results: schema vs a tidy URL

Today's lesson: breadcrumbs — that little trail (Home › Shoes › Running) shown in a search result instead of a raw web address — make listings clearer. Two paths get you there.

Picture posting a road sign versus naming the road itself.

1. BreadcrumbList schema is the road sign: code that tells Google the exact trail to display. Reliable and controllable.
2. A clean, logical URL (site.com/shoes/running) is the road's own name — Google sometimes builds a trail from it alone.
3. Schema wins when your URLs are messy or use IDs like '?p=482'.

The tradeoff: tidy URLs help users and search both, but schema guarantees the trail shows even when the address is ugly.

Try this: search one inner page and see if it shows a breadcrumb trail or a raw address. 🎓
