How to pick your first timeout (in 5 steps)
A timeout is the deadline you give partners to bid. After it passes, the auction closes — even if money is still coming in.
The playbook:
— 1. Open your browser dev tools, Network tab, and reload your page 10 times.
— 2. Watch how long your bid requests take to come back.
— 3. Find the point where 8 out of 10 partners have answered.
— 4. Set your timeout slightly above that number (often 1000-1500ms).
— 5. Watch revenue and page speed for one week before changing anything.
Too short, you leave money on the table. Too long, your page feels slow.
In plain English: time how fast bids arrive, then set the deadline just past where most of them land.
