Q: Should I trust device fingerprinting or IP reputation more for catching fake leads?

Q: Should I trust device fingerprinting or IP reputation more for catching fake leads?

A: They catch different problems, so the real answer is layer them, not pick one.

IP reputation (a score for how shady an address looks) is great for the obvious stuff — known datacenter ranges, recycled proxy pools, residential addresses that suddenly route 400 conversions an hour. It's cheap and fast, but it goes blind the moment someone buys fresh residential proxies.

Device fingerprinting (a hash of browser, fonts, canvas, timezone, screen) catches the thing IP can't: one 'device' wearing 200 different IPs. That's your classic farm signature.

When to lean which way:
— High-volume, low-payout traffic: IP first, it's cheaper per check.
— High-payout verticals (finance, insurance): fingerprint first, the farms invest more.
— Mobile app installs: fingerprinting gets weak (privacy sandboxing), so weight IP and install-timing higher.

Short version: IP reputation flags bad addresses, fingerprinting flags repeated identities. You want both, and you want to alert when they disagree — that gap is where smart fraud hides.
