Chasing the follower number
Everyone says: "Grow your follower count — bigger audience, bigger reach."
The claim: follower count is the lever; more followers mechanically means more views.
What's actually true: reach is gated by how many of your followers engage early, not how many exist. The mistake is growth tactics that add inactive or off-topic followers — engagement-bait giveaways, mass follow-back — which DILUTE your early-engagement rate and shrink reach per post. 5,000 wrong followers can out-suppress 1,500 right ones. Tested fix: stop optimizing the count. Track engaged-follower rate instead (reactions ÷ followers on a typical post). Prune or ignore off-topic growth and write narrower so the right people self-select in. A small, on-topic audience that reacts beats a big one that scrolls.
It's not too few followers. It's too many of the wrong ones.
