CTA at the start vs CTA at the end
A creator I helped always begged for follows at the end: "If you made it this far, follow for more." The follow rate per thousand views was 3.1, because the people most likely to follow had already scrolled.
We tested a mid-video CTA placed right after the payoff, while emotion was peaking, not at the dead end after it. Follow rate climbed to 5.4 per thousand.
Then we tested a front-loaded CTA at second two — and it cratered to 1.9, because asking before you've earned anything reads as needy.
The result was a clean curve: CTAs convert in proportion to the goodwill you've banked when you ask. The end-of-video slot fails not because it's late, but because the best prospects are already gone.
The lesson: ask for the follow at the emotional peak, not the structural end. Placement is timing, and timing is goodwill.
