Myth: Listicle prelanders always beat advertorials — they're proven.
No. "Proven" by whom, on what offer, in which year? The listicle ("7 things…") won big in 2018 and got copied to death. Audiences pattern-match it as an ad now.
The real tradeoff is intent temperature:
— Advertorial / editorial story: warms a cold, skeptical reader who needs a narrative before they'll trust the offer. Slower, higher converting on considered purchases.
— Listicle: faster scan, better for impulse and curiosity buys, worse when the click is already jaded.
Match the format to the buyer's heat, not to last year's case study. Supposedly listicles are a cheat code. They're a format the whole vertical wore out while you weren't looking. The fresh angle out-converts the famous one.
