Geo Pulse #57 — Currency mistakes that read as scams
Theme: small money-formatting errors that kill trust per GEO.
→ Showing USD in a local-currency market. A Brazilian seeing "$49" doesn't know if it's BRL or USD — hesitation kills conversion. Fix: localize symbol, code, and placement (R$49,00, not $49.00).
→ Naive FX conversion with ugly numbers. Auto-converting $19.99 to ¥2,847 looks broken. Fix: set psychological price points per currency (¥2,980), don't just multiply by the spot rate.
→ Decimal and thousands separators. 1,000.50 in the US is 1.000,50 in Germany and Brazil. Wrong separators make a price look like a typo.
→ Zero-decimal currencies. JPY, KRW, VND have no cents. Showing "¥2980.00" flags you as foreign and careless. Source: CLDR / Unicode locale data, which every framework can pull from.
