Quiz prelander vs advertorial: the same offer, a 2.3x gap in conversion
The setup: Skincare offer on native, cold tier-1 traffic. Two prelander styles, A/B split on the same creatives, $1,800 total.
The move: Quiz prelander (4 questions, 'find your skin type') vs long-form advertorial ('I tried this for 30 days'). Same offer page after.
The numbers (illustrative): Quiz: 41% click-through to offer, 3.1% offer CVR, ROI +12%. Advertorial: 22% click-through but 7.2% offer CVR, ROI +28%. The advertorial sent fewer but far warmer clicks.
The lesson: Quizzes maximize the prelander click — they feel like the conversion, but they pre-qualify nobody. Advertorials lose volume on the bridge but the people who reach the offer are sold. On a high-ticket or high-friction offer, warm-and-few beats cold-and-many.
What I'd do differently: I optimized the quiz for prelander CTR for two weeks, congratulating myself on 40%+ click-through while the back-end bled. Always measure prelanders by offer CVR and final ROI, never by the click into the offer. The bridge metric lies.
