Hold firm vs split the difference
When you're close on price, two moves. Hold firm = repeat your number and wait. Split the difference = meet in the middle of the gap.
Why it matters: splitting feels fair and fast, but if you always offer it, you've quietly trained brands to lowball, knowing you'll meet halfway. Holding firm sometimes gets you the full ask for free.
Simple example: you want $1,000, they offer $800. Splitting lands at $900 every time. Holding firm, calmly, lands at $1,000 maybe half the time, worth way more across many deals.
Your move: hold firm first. Only split when a real deadline or relationship makes the extra $100 not worth losing the deal.
