Affiliate links pay per action, so even 500 visitors a month can earn if the intent is strong (a 'best X for Y' post converts at a few percent). So start by matching commercial-intent posts to relevant affiliate offers, and only layer in ads when traffic is big enough that the page-experience hit is worth it.

Ads on a 50-visitor site is the classic premature move.
