DM re-engagement vs channel ping: choosing by silence depth

DM re-engagement vs channel ping: choosing by silence depth

A member goes quiet. Two recovery tools, picked by how long they've been gone.

The Silence-Depth rule:
☐ Quiet 7-14 days → channel ping. Tag them in something relevant, public, low-pressure. Cost: near zero. Recovers the still-warm.
☐ Quiet 15-30 days → DM, but only with a specific reason ('saw you asked about X, we just covered it'). Generic 'we miss you' DMs convert under 3%.
☐ Quiet 30+ days → one DM, then stop. Past 30 days, repeated DMs read as desperate and burn trust.

The tradeoff: channel pings scale and feel natural but ignore the truly-gone. DMs recover deeper sleepers but don't scale and punish over-use.

Never DM a member you've never spoken to directly. The first DM should reference a real interaction, or it's a cold pitch.

Set the trigger on days-since-last-action, automate the segmentation, keep the message human.

Save this for your next launch.
