Scheduled rituals vs spontaneous prompts: when each one works

Scheduled rituals vs spontaneous prompts: when each one works

A ritual is a repeating community event on a fixed cadence. A spontaneous prompt is a one-off you drop when energy is low.

They solve different problems.

Scheduled ritual (e.g. 'Friday Wins'):
☐ Use when you need predictable baseline activity.
☐ Strength: members anticipate it, no daily decision for you.
☐ Weakness: goes stale at ~8 weeks without format rotation.

Spontaneous prompt:
☐ Use to rescue a dead day or test a new format.
☐ Strength: fresh, reactive to what's live.
☐ Weakness: depends entirely on you showing up; no system.

The operator's mistake: relying on spontaneity. It feels alive but it's just you carrying the room.

Rule: build the scheduled ritual as your floor, use spontaneous prompts as experiments. Promote the best spontaneous one to scheduled after it works 3 times.

Save this for your next launch.
