Hot take: length isn't the variable — tension is. A 300-word caption that reveals one thing per paragraph beats a 12-word one-liner with no reason to keep reading. Short wins when you've got a single sharp idea; long wins when you can hold a thread. Most people write long with no thread, then blame the length.
