The number hook vs the curiosity gap
A finance creator was obsessed with curiosity gaps. The opener was "There's one thing rich people do that nobody talks about." Vague on purpose. Three-second retention: 49%. The problem with pure curiosity is it reads as bait, and savvy audiences have been burned enough to scroll on reflex.
We replaced the vagueness with a hard number: "People who hit a million before forty all max out one specific account first." Same promise, but now it had an edge of specificity. Retention went to 66%.
The result across the channel was consistent — concrete numbers outperformed open-ended teases by roughly 15 points with an audience over thirty.
The lesson: a curiosity gap and a number can do the same job, but the number works better the smarter your audience is. Save the pure tease for impulse-scroll niches, not for skeptics.
