Question hook vs statement hook on the same video
Let me tell you about a fitness client who insisted on question hooks for everything. The video opened: "Do you struggle with lower back pain?" Retention at three seconds: 41%. Here's the thing about questions as openers — the viewer answers in their head and feels done. They got their resolution before you delivered yours.
And then we swapped it to a statement that assumed the answer: "Your lower back pain is coming from your hips, not your back." Same footage, same everything. Three-second retention jumped to 68%.
The result over the next eleven videos was a clean pattern. Questions worked only when the answer was genuinely uncertain. Statements won when the viewer already knew the problem.
The lesson: use a question to create doubt, use a statement to create a promise. Most people pick wrong because the question feels safer.
