A photography blog tested 3 partners vs 8 — and 3 won on profit
More demand partners means more bids, but also more browser work and slower pages. The sweet spot isn't always "more."
What happened: a photography blog couldn't decide how many partners to run.
The test, over six weeks:
1. Three weeks with their 3 strongest partners.
2. Three weeks with all 8.
3. Compared revenue and load time.
Result: the 8-partner setup earned just 3% more revenue but added 350ms of load time, raising bounces. After accounting for lost readers, the lean 3-partner setup actually netted more.
In plain English: count the cost of speed. Five extra partners that add 3% but slow the page can leave you worse off.
