Ahrefs vs Semrush for backlink work:
I ran both on the same client domain (1.2M referring pages) for a month. Verdict isn't close on this one job.
Ahrefs
➕ Bigger live link index — it caught 9 fresh links Semrush hadn't crawled yet
➕ The "best by links" report and broken-link finder are faster to actually act on
➖ No native CRM for outreach; you export and bolt on something else
Semrush
➕ Link Building Tool with built-in outreach pipeline and status tracking
➕ Toxicity score is handy for cheap disavow triage
➖ Index felt 1-2 weeks behind on new links during my test
Best for: pure backlink discovery and audits → Ahrefs. Outreach-as-workflow → Semrush.
Price-vs-value: both ~$129-139/mo entry, but Ahrefs gates row exports hard on the cheap plan. If link analysis is your core job, that ceiling bites.
Pick this if you live in link reports daily: Ahrefs. Skip if you need outreach + links in one seat without a separate tool: Ahrefs.
