Q: Did rewriting your program terms actually reduce disputes?
Surprisingly, yes, and it was nearly free. Our program terms were a wall of legalese, and we were fielding the same disputes constantly: when do I get paid, why was this reversed, what counts as a qualifying sale.
What we did:
— Rewrote terms in plain language with a one-page summary up top: exact payout date, refund-hold length, what voids a commission
— Added three worked examples (a normal sale, a refunded sale, a self-referral that gets rejected)
— Required a re-acceptance click for all partners
Result: commission disputes dropped about 55% the next quarter, and our support time on the program fell noticeably. Partners stopped being surprised because the rules were finally legible.
The caveat: a plain-language summary doesn't replace enforceable legal terms, keep both. And rewriting terms means a re-acceptance prompt, which a few inactive partners ignore, temporarily 'pausing' them. Time it during a quiet period.
