Swapping the angle, not the product, doubled CTR
I tested seven creatives for the same product and they all flopped. The eighth changed the angle, not the visuals.
— The setup: a posture-correction product, $39, Facebook, seven product-focused creatives (features, demos, discount), all under 1.5x ROAS.
— The move: instead of another product creative, I shot one that led with the problem — back pain at a desk — and only mentioned the product at the very end.
— The numbers: product-angle creatives averaged 0.9% CTR and 1.3x ROAS. The problem-angle creative hit 2.4% CTR and 2.7x ROAS on the same audience and budget. Across $900 of product-angle: +12%. The first $900 of problem-angle: +65%.
— The lesson: people don't scroll-stop for a product, they stop for their own problem. Seven iterations of the wrong angle is worse than one of the right one. I was optimizing the answer when the question was wrong.
What I'd do differently: Test angles before I test executions. I burned ~$900 polishing product creatives that were structurally doomed. Figures illustrative; the problem-first angle lift is one of the most reliable swings in paid social.
