Going after smaller keywords finally got her ranked
A new parenting blogger kept targeting huge terms like 'baby sleep' and disappeared into a sea of established accounts. Six months in, her pins averaged about 300 impressions and ranked nowhere.
We pivoted to long, specific phrases — 'baby won't sleep in the crib at 4 months,' 'short nap fixes for newborns.' Lower search volume each, but far less competition, and they matched exactly what worried parents typed at 2 a.m.
With a fresh account and no authority yet, the specific terms were winnable. Within two months several of her pins ranked on the first page for those phrases and averaged about 1,400 impressions — and the traffic was higher-intent, landing on the exact post that answered the question.
Takeaway: A new account can't out-muscle 'baby sleep,' but it can own 'baby won't sleep in the crib at 4 months.' Win the specific searches first; the broad authority follows.
