Shifting his pin mix to 80% evergreen smoothed out his traffic
A SaaS founder pinned almost entirely promotional content — 'sign up,' 'our features,' 'book a demo.' Pinterest distributes weakly to hard-sell pins, and his impressions were stuck near 5,000 a month with brutal spikes and crashes.
We flipped the ratio to about 80% genuinely helpful evergreen content — how-to guides, templates, checklists his ideal user would search for — and 20% direct product pins.
The helpful pins earned saves and steady distribution, and they pulled people into his world who later met the product pins. Over three months impressions reached about 16,000 and, crucially, his trial signups from Pinterest tripled because the audience arrived warm, not cold.
Takeaway: Pinterest is a search engine for problems, not an ad slot. Lead 80/20 with content that helps, and let the helpful pins earn the right to sell.
