I published 100 articles in 90 days. Here's what actually happened.
Month 1: I'd read that 'content velocity' wins, so I tested it brutally — golf-equipment site, goal of 100 articles in 90 days using writers and tight outlines.
Months 1-3: I hit 97 articles. Cost me about $6,800 in writing. Traffic went from 2k to 9k sessions. Felt like it was working.
Then the wall: by Month 5, roughly 60 of those 97 articles had zero impressions. They weren't bad, they just targeted keywords I'd picked fast and lazy to hit my quota. Volume without keyword discipline = a graveyard.
The turn: I stopped publishing entirely and spent Month 6 improving the 37 articles that DID get impressions — better intros, real product photos, comparison tables.
Month 9: those 37 carried the site to 28k sessions and $980/month. The other 60 still made roughly nothing.
The math that stung: ~$4,200 of my writing budget went to articles that never earned a click.
The takeaway: velocity isn't the lever, it's an amplifier — and it amplifies bad keyword choices just as fast as good ones. I'd have made more spending half the budget on a third of the articles, chosen carefully.
