Ch. 15: I Moved One Internal Link and a Page Jumped to #2
My survival-gear site had a money page for "best water filter for backpacking" stuck at position 11 — the bottom of page 1, which earns almost nothing. It had good content; it just lacked internal authority.
I looked at which of my pages had the most external backlinks. My "how to purify water in the wild" guide had 14 referring domains and was bleaking that authority to nowhere useful. I added a single, contextual internal link from that strong page to my stuck money page, with anchor text matching the target query.
Three weeks later it moved from 11 to 4. A month after that, position 2. Traffic to that one page went from ~90/mo to ~1,400/mo.
Revenue on the page: from near-zero to $480/mo. One link.
Lesson banked: your most-linked page is a battery — point its internal links at the money pages you actually want to rank, not at random.
