Case study: how long GSC 'Validate Fix' actually takes (measured)
Setup: After fixing noindex on 4,000 pages, I logged how long Google's 'Validate Fix' button in the Coverage report took to confirm, across three batches.
What it did well:
— The button does work: it prioritizes re-crawl of the flagged set
— Batch 1 (800 URLs) validated in 6 days; the API confirmed re-indexing aligned
Where it fell short:
— It's wildly inconsistent: Batch 2 (1,500 URLs) took 19 days, Batch 3 sat on 'Started' for 26 days then failed and needed a re-trigger
— No progress percentage — you stare at 'Started' with zero feedback
Verdict: 3/5. Use it, but don't plan timelines around it. Submit a fresh sitemap alongside to hedge.
Best for: confirming a known fix at scale. Not for: anyone who needs predictable timing.
