The email re-engagement that revived a "dead" list

The email re-engagement that revived a "dead" list
Myth: "A dating lead that didn't convert in 48 hours is dead — stop emailing, it's wasted sends."

A list owner believed cold leads were worthless after two days and was about to suppress 60k of them. Before deleting, he ran a single re-engagement sequence to that "dead" segment.

The segment: leads 14-90 days old, zero conversions. He sent a 4-email arc with a new angle (location-based "someone viewed your area" instead of the original generic pitch).

Result: 1.9% reactivation to a paid action across 60k = ~1,140 conversions at near-zero marginal cost beyond the ESP bill. Revenue the chat would've thrown in the trash.

The "48-hour death" idea comes from real-time funnel optimization, where speed matters. It got wrongly imported into list strategy, where a different angle weeks later catches people whose situation changed. A lead's intent isn't fixed; the funnel that missed them once might land on a different day.

Reality: leads don't die in 48 hours — your first angle does, and a new one against the same list is nearly free money.
