What happened when I added 600 internal links in one weekend

Month 1: kitchen-appliance site, 200 articles, 31k sessions, $1,200/month. Stuck flat for five months no matter what I published.

Month 6: I ran a crawl and found the obvious-in-hindsight problem — most articles were orphans or near-orphans, linked from one or two places. My best content had nowhere to pass authority.

The turn: one weekend, methodically, I added contextual internal links — every blender post linked to relevant smoothie-recipe and cleaning posts, hub pages linked down to specifics, related reviews cross-linked. About 600 new links, all relevant, no spammy footer dumps.

The setback: I got over-eager and stuffed one hub page with 40 links; it read like a sitemap and I had to thin it back to 12. More isn't the goal, relevance is.

Month 9: 31k → 44k sessions, no new articles published. Revenue $1,200 → $1,710. Pages that had sat on page two for months crept onto page one as link equity finally flowed.

The takeaway: you can have great content that ranks badly purely because nothing points to it. Internal linking is the cheapest 'content upgrade' there is — I already owned all the pages.
