Deleting the 2-second logo intro recovered 28% of lost viewers
Here's a small one with a big number. A gaming channel branded every Short with a 2-second animated logo and a whoosh before talking. The actual hook — "This build one-shots every boss in the game" — didn't land until second 3. By then, 28% had already scrolled.
The thing is, the viewer doesn't owe you two seconds of branding before you've earned them. So we ripped the intro out and slammed the hook into frame one. Same line, just first.
And then the people who used to bail during the logo never got the chance — the claim hit before their thumb moved.
The result: 1s retention went from 64% to 89%, and the channel's average views per Short rose by a third.
The lesson: your hook is your intro — anything in front of it is a tax you pay in viewers.
