A store ran 23 Shopify apps, paid $740/mo for them, and replaced 9 with 200 lines of code.
Every feature was 'just install an app.' Theme code ballooned, the storefront loaded 31 scripts, and LCP sat at 3.4s. They audited usage: 9 apps did jobs a developer could fold into the theme in two days, badges, upsell widgets, a countdown, custom fields. Removing them cut $310/mo, dropped to 19 scripts, and LCP fell to 1.6s. Conversion ticked up 0.4 points. The app store is a convenience tax that compounds. Every plugin is a script someone else controls, running on your revenue page.
