Exit-intent popup recovered 6% of bouncing carts
This week I tested an exit-intent offer on the checkout page. Cheap to build, paid for itself in 2 days.
Setup. Control = no popup, you leave, you're gone. Variant = mouse heads for the X, popup fires with a real 10% code. 3,300 cart sessions.
Result. 6.2% of people who triggered exit-intent came back and bought. Net revenue per session up 9% even after eating the discount. The ones who left anyway weren't going to buy regardless.
Loss note: tried the same popup on TIME delay instead of exit-intent and it cratered, annoyed buyers mid-flow.
Go build an exit-intent offer, mouse-leave trigger only, never time-based. Report back.
