A creator confessed he bought 10,000 followers at 5k real. His median views didn't rise — they fell, from 4,000 to 1,100, and stayed there for two months.

The received wisdom is that a bigger number primes distribution. The opposite happened.

The mechanism: bought followers are dead accounts. When TikTok seeds a new video partly to your follower base and 10k of them never watch, your completion and engagement rate against "your" audience craters. The system reads that low rate as "even his followers won't watch this" and shrinks the test pool.

Fake followers don't pad credibility — they poison your most-trusted signal. You're not buying a head start. You're buying a permanent denominator of zombies dragging every rate-based metric down.
