Ch. 5: $6,400 in One Month — But Look at the Mix

Month 22 on my home-office niche site: $6,400 total. I post the breakdown because the headline number lies.

— Display ads (Mediavine): $2,950 on a $34 session RPM, 86,000 sessions
— Amazon Associates: $1,510, mostly monitors and standing desks
— One affiliate deal direct with a desk-mat brand: $1,940 on just 38 sales at $51 commission each

That last line is the whole lesson. The desk-mat deal came from a 1,600-word review that pulled maybe 600 sessions a month. Terrible traffic, absurd revenue-per-visitor, because I negotiated 30% direct instead of taking Amazon's 3%.

I now audit every product I push: if a brand runs its own program, I email them before I default to Amazon.

Lesson banked: one direct affiliate deal on a mid-traffic page can out-earn 50,000 display sessions — chase margin, not just volume.
