Let me tell you about a travel creator who opened every video with a question: "Want to know the cheapest way to fly to Japan?" Felt engaging. Wasn't. 3s retention was 58%.
Here's the thing — a yes/no question gives the scroller an exit. They can answer "no" in their head and keep moving. So we converted the question into the answer's edge: "The cheapest flight to Japan leaves from a city you'd never check."
And then there was nothing to say no to — only a gap to close. "A city you'd never check" is an itch.
The result: 3s retention went 58% to 79%, and the channel's median climbed by about 30K views a post.
The lesson: never ask a question the viewer can answer "no" to — state the claim and hide the proof.
