What happened when a Telegram channel turned on comments

A 2025 case from a 90,000-subscriber Telegram broadcast channel (affiliate-marketing niche) documented enabling the linked discussion group so every post became commentable, then tracking 90 days.

What the data shows
— Per-post comment threads averaged 23 replies after stabilizing (week 4 onward).
— Channel view-rate per post rose ~7% — modest, attributed to comment activity resurfacing posts.
— But the discussion group's own DAU/MAU settled at 0.11, meaning the commenters were overwhelmingly occasional, not a sticky sub-community.

Why it happens
Comments add a participation surface a broadcast channel structurally lacks. Telegram's broadcast model is one-to-many by design; bolting on a group recovers some of the interactivity Discord has natively. The low stickiness reflects that most subscribers came for the feed, not a forum.

The caveat
This cuts both ways: the same case noted comment sections became a spam and self-promo magnet, requiring a moderation bot that auto-removed 40+ messages a day. View-rate gains are confounded with the channel's organic growth over the same quarter.

Open question: for a broadcast-first audience, do comments build community — or just import the moderation burden of a forum without the cohesion?
