HEARD: A B2B team junked predictive lead scoring and conversion went up.
A mid-market SaaS shop running HubSpot's predictive scoring told us at a recent meetup their model was 'a black box that loved free-email tinkerers.' They ripped it out and rebuilt a rules-based score in a workflow: +20 for pricing-page visit, +15 for a return inside 7 days, -30 for personal-domain signups.
The number that moved: sales-accepted leads rose from 31% to 52% in one quarter, and SDRs stopped chasing ~40% of the old 'hot' list.
The lesson making the rounds: explainable beats predictive when your data is thin.
