Hot reminder: chasing volume can get you quietly throttled by the program
Everyone optimizes for more clicks. Programs increasingly grade affiliates on conversion quality, and low-quality volume can demote you.
What's actually happening behind the dashboard:
— Many SaaS programs now tier affiliates. Send lots of clicks that don't convert (or convert into refunders) and your effective rate, payout speed, or approval status gets quietly downgraded.
— Bonus tiers and rate bumps go to affiliates with strong trial-to-paid and low clawbacks, not the ones with the most raw traffic.
— Incentivized, coupon, and brand-bid traffic flags you as low-value even when the click count looks great.
So the "more is better" instinct can actively lower the rate on the good conversions you do bring.
Fewer, higher-intent buyers beat a flood of tire-kickers, for your reputation inside the program and your refund rate.
Verdict: volume impresses your ego; quality impresses the payout engine.
