"Soften the casual angle to widen the audience"

"Soften the casual angle to widen the audience"

Myth: "Tone down the explicit casual hook into 'find a connection' and you'll capture more of the market."

The instinct is that broader framing means broader reach. In dating it usually means muddier intent and worse economics. A user who clicks an unambiguous casual angle is self-selecting their mindset before they ever hit your lander — and that mindset matches what the back-end monetizes. Blur the angle to sound respectable and you attract relationship-seekers who land on a casual product, feel mismatched, and bounce without depositing. You widened the top and narrowed the conversion.

This is the broad-versus-qualified tradeoff people forget: a smaller, intent-aligned audience that converts and retains beats a larger, vaguely-targeted one that registers and churns. "Connection" framing also competes head-on with the mainstream giants who own that positioning and outspend you a hundred to one.

Clarity of angle isn't a limit. It's pre-qualification doing free work for your deposit rate.

Reality: Softening the angle widens the funnel and breaks the intent match, trading a qualified casual audience for an unqualified one that doesn't pay.
