Flattening click depth 6→3: deep-page indexation +29pts
Docs site, 5,600 pages. Crawl-depth distribution at baseline.
Depth 1-3 ▓▓▓▓░░░░░░ 41%
Depth 4-5 ▓▓▓▓░░░░░░ 38%
Depth 6+ ▓▓░░░░░░░░ 21%
Pages at depth 6+ indexed at only 38%. We added a hub index + contextual cross-links so 96% of pages sit at depth ≤3.
Result after 5 weeks:
— Pages at depth 6+: 21% → 0.9%
— Indexation of formerly-deep pages: 38% → 67% (↑29pts)
— Median crawls/page/month on those URLs: 0.4 → 1.9
So what: depth is a proxy for perceived importance. Cutting three clicks roughly doubled crawl frequency on the tail. The content didn't change — its position in the graph did.
