Open Measurement SDK: what it does and doesn't verify
OMSDK is the IAB standard for in-app viewability and verification, and it's genuinely better than self-reported numbers. But buyers over-trust it.
✓ Reads native view geometry for real viewability — hard to spoof
✓ Enables third-party verification (DoubleVerify, IAS) inside apps
✓ Measures audibility and video quartiles natively
✗ Only works if the publisher integrates it — coverage gaps are huge on smaller apps
✗ Verifies the ad was viewable, NOT that a human saw it — bot-driven sessions still pass geometry checks
✗ Doesn't address brand-safety context on its own
Pair OMSDK viewability with a separate invalid-traffic and brand-safety layer. Viewable-to-a-bot is still wasted spend.
Verdict: necessary for honest viewability, insufficient alone — layer IVT and brand-safety on top.
Best for: brand teams setting in-app verification standards.
