Free tiers that quietly trap you (and the ones that don't)
Not every 'free' is generous. After clicking through dozens, here's the pattern.
The traps
👎 Mailchimp free — capped at 500 contacts now and it nags you toward paid relentlessly
👎 HubSpot free CRM — lovely until you need a basic feature gated behind a $20+/seat tier
👎 Webflow free — you can't use a custom domain, so it's a demo, not a launch
The genuinely usable
👍 Cloudflare — unlimited bandwidth free, forever, no asterisk
👍 Brevo (ex-Sendinblue) — 300 emails/day free, no contact cap
👍 Google Search Console — the most valuable free SEO tool, full stop
Verdict: judge a free tier by what it caps — contacts and custom domains are the usual hostage.
Best for: bootstrappers — start on Cloudflare + Brevo + GSC, upgrade only when a cap actually bites.
