How much unique copy does a product page actually need?

'Q: What's the minimum word count for a product page to rank?'

Short answer: There's no word count — a product page ranks on unique value (specs, reviews, images, Q&A), and 80 sharp words can beat 800 padded ones.

The longer version: word count isn't a ranking factor; relevance and uniqueness are. A product page is a different animal from a blog post — shoppers want specs, sizing, photos, and reviews fast, not 800 words of SEO filler about 'the perfect addition to your home.'

What actually moves product rankings: structured specs, genuine reviews, real photos, an FAQ answering pre-purchase questions, and clear unique copy on fit, use, and care. That's 'content' in Google's eyes even if it's not paragraphs.

The follow-up: thin is the real risk — a page with just a name, price, and stock image, identical to 200 competitors. Fix thinness by adding the things shoppers ask about, not by inflating the description.

Rule of thumb: answer every pre-purchase question and skip the padding — usefulness ranks, length doesn't.
