The vet who doubled down by talking back
Meet a veterinary practice in Cardiff with solid reviews and total silence beneath them. Hundreds of comments, not one reply. The owner thought responding was a nicety. It's closer to a ranking input.
Google treats owner responses as engagement, and engaged profiles outrank dormant ones. Beyond that, replies are a place to plant relevance, mentioning services and the locality in natural language the algorithm reads.
We set a rule: every review answered within 48 hours, personally, naming the pet, the treatment, and occasionally the neighbourhood. Never copy-paste. Roughly four minutes each.
The needle didn't move for two weeks. Engagement signals build like interest.
Then the consistent responsiveness registered as an active, attentive profile, and it crept upward.
They moved from position four to position two for 'vet near me' in their area. New-client registrations rose 31 percent, and prospective owners reading the replies converted noticeably better.
The lesson: an unanswered review is a finished conversation. An answered one keeps your profile working.
