Can I put my own star ratings in product schema?

Can I put my own star ratings in product schema?

'Q: Can I mark up self-serving review ratings on my product pages?'

Short answer: No — Google banned self-serving aggregateRating on products; the ratings must come from genuine, on-page customer reviews.

The longer version: there was a window where stores invented 4.8-star
aggregateRating
with no visible reviews. Google closed it. Now product star eligibility requires reviews that are real, visible on the page, and tied to that specific product — not site-wide testimonials, not your own claims.

If the ratings in your schema aren't matched by reviews a user can actually read on that page, Google ignores them or issues a structured-data manual action. The whole field of marked-up stars vanishes from your results.

The follow-up: third-party review platforms (the ones that syndicate to Google) are fine because the reviews are verifiable and the markup reflects what's on the page. The line is verifiability, not who collected them.

Rule of thumb: if a shopper can't see the reviews behind the stars, don't mark them up.
