Infinite Scroll: Recycle Slots, Don't Spawn Them
Infinite-scroll feeds that createSlot() per new card leak memory and tank RPM after 50+ items. The fix is a fixed pool of slots you destroy-and-refresh as cards scroll past.
What it does — reuses N ad objects instead of unbounded growth.
Setup effort (4/5) — needs googletag.destroySlots() management and a recycling queue.
RPM lift seen — +10-15% deep-session RPM; without it, late-feed ads simply stop filling as the page chokes.
Pros — stable performance on huge feeds, counts as refresh-on-scroll done right.
Cons — genuinely fiddly; bad implementations double-count impressions and risk invalid-traffic flags.
Lift: ★★★★☆ — Risk: ★★★☆☆
Best for: pinterest-style or news feeds. Skip if your pages are finite — paginate instead, it's simpler and safer.
