She built her traffic on keywords nobody else wanted
A wedding-planning blogger kept targeting 'wedding ideas' — impossibly crowded — and her pins drowned. Average position deep in the feed, 500 impressions each.
She started typing seed words into the Pinterest search bar and harvesting the autocomplete tails: 'micro wedding backyard', 'courthouse wedding outfit guest', 'elopement timeline'. Low volume, but low competition, and Pinterest's own bar was telling her people searched them.
She made pins targeting 20 of these specific phrases. Average impressions per pin rose to 3,400, because she was first-page for terms with almost no rivals. Combined those 'small' keywords out-earned her old 'wedding ideas' pins fourfold in outbound clicks.
Takeaway: the search bar's autocomplete is free keyword research — chase the specific tails, not the giant head terms.
