Should I merge two weak posts into one?
Q: I've got two short posts on nearly the same topic, both barely ranking. Combine them?
A: Short answer: yes — when two posts overlap and both underperform, merging usually beats keeping both. Longer answer: two thin pages on the same intent often split signals and compete with each other (that's keyword cannibalization). Combining them into one deeper, definitive page consolidates links, relevance, and reader attention. Do it cleanly: pick the URL with more traffic/links as the keeper, fold the best of the other into it, then 301-redirect the loser to the keeper so its equity transfers. Don't just delete the second one — that throws away whatever signals it had. After merging, update internal links pointing to the old URL so readers and crawlers land on the right place.
Anyone want me to go deeper on this? React 👍
