Should I update this old post or just delete it?
Q: I have a 3-year-old post that gets a trickle of traffic. Refresh it or kill it?
A: Short answer: if it gets any traffic or links, update — never delete. Longer answer: deletion is for pages that are truly dead AND have no backlinks AND no internal links pointing to them. A trickle of traffic means Google still sees value; that's an asset to grow, not trash. The real decision tree: traffic but outdated → rewrite and republish. No traffic, has links → redirect to a better page. No traffic, no links, no purpose → then consider removing. When you do refresh, change the substance (new data, new sections), not just the date — a date swap with no real change fools nobody, including Google.
Anyone want me to go deeper on this? React 👍
