A sitemap does not increase how much Google crawls you
The myth: submit a fat XML sitemap and Googlebot crawls harder. It doesn't. A sitemap is a hint about what exists and when it changed — not a request for more crawl, and not a ranking input.
What it actually does: helps discovery of URLs that are poorly linked internally. That's it. If your pages are already well-linked, the sitemap adds almost nothing to crawling.
Where people hurt themselves: stuffing dead, redirected, or noindex URLs into the sitemap. Now Google wastes fetches validating garbage you told it was important, and trusts your next sitemap less.
A sitemap is a map, not an engine.
Clean beats complete.
