<b>Where should category intro text actually go?</b>

<b>Where should category intro text actually go?</b>

'Q: SEO text on category pages — top or bottom? Does it even work?'

<b>Short answer:</b> A short useful intro at the top, the rest below the products — but the products must come first in both layout and source order.

The longer version: the old move was a 600-word wall above the grid that pushed products below the fold. That hurts conversion and signals 'this is an article, not a shopping page.' Shoppers want products immediately; so does Google's product-intent ranking.

Keep a 2-3 line intro up top that confirms the page matches the query and links to key subcategories. Park longer content — buying guidance, size charts, FAQ — beneath the grid where it adds value without blocking the goods.

The part people get wrong: source order. Even with CSS that looks right, if the text block comes before the product grid in the HTML, that's what gets weight. Put products first in the DOM.

Rule of thumb: products above the fold, prose below, and make the prose answer a buying question — not stuff keywords.
